The High-Top Trainers

I do most of my training in a gym, with weights and sweat, but I try to get to a CrossFit gym in town (CrossFit Fidei) occasionally for the amazing benefits that it brings to the table. I recently realized that you need to look into your shoe of choice depending on what you have planned that day.

The High-Top Trainers from No Bull are just that, as usual. We worked on Cleans, Front Squats, Box Jump Overs, Burpees, etc today and they out performed my usual go-to. I typically would wear Nike Cross-Trainers. These High-Tops have a lot more support for your ankle and they feel like they help you “spring” back when you’re in a squat. They landed well on the box as well as coming down from the Chest-to-Bars. I normally would get a 12.5 US but I went with a 13 US and they fit perfect.

The soles have awesome grip and I didn’t notice any slips today on the semi-wet rubber floor.

You might feel like they are too High to make for a good workout shoe and that they might limit movement but I didn’t notice any negatives about their height today.

Positives — Grip, Ankle Support, Fit, Range of Motion, Breathability and Quality Leather Construction.

Negatives — Leather Scuffs Easily, Price Point ($169US)

Stormy Kromer

If you are from Michigan (especially the UP), the Midwest or America for that matter – You have probably at least heard of the Stormy Kromer.  Stormy Kromer is an apparel company located in Ironwood, MI. They have been handcrafting items for years and the quality of each item they make is unparalleled.

Like it says on a vintage patch on the inside of each item they make, the story goes like this “George Stormy Kromer, a semi-pro baseball player and railroad engineer, got tired of losing his hat to the winter wind. So he asked his wife Ida to sew some flaps on an old baseball cap to keep it snug, it worked so well that 100 years later it is still legendary for comfort and fit.”

I have purchased or been gifted quite a few of their products and I have yet to find any issues.  The size and fit is right on. Each item serves its purpose very well.  The original cap, similar to the style of the cap shown above, has a lace at the center of the front so that you may tighten and loosen the flap to make for the best fit for you.  The hats keep your head warm in the fall and winter months but not so warm that you cannot stand to keep them on inside.

I wear the Waxed Cotton Cap just about every single day.  It is amazing how this cap is waterproof, comfortable and easy to maintain.  I am able to get dirt and grease all over it and just brush it off.  I typically wipe it down with a wet towel and once it is dry I occasionally reapply the Martexin Original Wax to keep its conditioning up.

The online store has everything you could possibly need from Stormy Kromer and I’m sure you can find a use for all of it. The best place in Michigan that I have found to purchase their stuff is from M-37 N in historic downtown Newaygo, MI. They have products from all sorts of outdoors companies and their SK selection is awesome. Plus, you can try the items on and get the best fit! They also keep up with all of the new items so you don’t have to worry about missing out on anything!

This won’t be my last post about SK!  I continue to try out their stuff and wear it out as best I can…but none of it has started to wear out at all.  I’ll keep you posted!
